Well played, McDonald's. Well played.

On the ride home from school the other day my son shouted out that he saw a McDonald's.

"I love McDonald's!" my daughter piped up from her car seat.

Really?

Kate is three and a half years old. I've taken my kids to McDonald's approximately twice to meet friends on the indoor playground, with the last time being more than a year ago. While there, Kate refused to eat the chicken nuggets and turned her nose up at the fries.

We do not have satellite or cable, and if the television is on it's tuned either to PBS (commercial free!) or an NFL football game.

So tell me...

WHY DOES SHE THINK SHE LOVES MCDONALD'S?

Is is cause of this guy?

Surely not. He's sort of terrifying.

Is it because they're now enlisting wholesome-looking farmers to convince us that their burgers come from grass-fed beef?

Touching and all, but I still have serious doubts about their beef. Nor do I think my daughter is paying attention to a cow's living accommodations considering a burger has never come within three inches of her mouth.

I was baffled, so I went to the source. "Kate, why do you love McDonald's?"

"Because I like it."

Hmm. That's enlightening.

Is it because of this?

I really, really hope so.

I guess McDonald's executives can sleep peacefully knowing that their ubiquitous presence on the highways and byways of this country have pre-schoolers everywhere convinced that they are worthy of love.
