"Why can't something be DONE about this?" "This is RIDICULOUS!" "The NERVE of the government / farmers / lobbyists / Monsanto Corporation / medical community / ill-informed general public, et al."
Then a few days go by, I make some bean burgers, and mostly forget about it.
It's always good to keep your fire stoked, though, so a week ago I watched "Food Matters" online. It was a really interesting movie that focused on healthy eating, nutritional supplements, and the enormous impact that the pharmaceutical industry has on the general population, medical community, and the economy. (Spoiler alert: a HUGE one.)
The experts featured in the movie range from a raw foodist to a holistic dentist, to an expert in orthomolecular medicine (nutrition therapy). The consensus among the film's contributors was that we are harming our bodies by consuming improper, unhealthy nutrition, and that by making smarter food choices we can prevent or eliminate many of the chronic ailments plaguing the people in our country -- without drugs.
One area the movie focused on was the concept of "Superfoods."
"Superfoods are a special category of foods found in nature. By definition they are calorie sparse and nutrient dense, meaning they pack a lot of punch for their weight as far as goodness goes. They are superior sources of anti-oxidants and essential nutrients - nutrients we need but cannot make ourselves. We all may be adding more salads and vegetables to our diets, but concern over the quality of foods grown on mineral depleted soils makes Superfoods an intelligent choice." (From FoodMatters.tv)Green superfoods include wheat grass, barley grass, spirulina, blue green algae, chlorella. Fruit and nut superfoods include goji berries, raw cacao, maca, acai.
Shoot, I've heard of those ingredients before. In fact, I see them every morning when I make my breakfast.
Chocolate Shakeology Phytonutrient Super-Greens Blend:
Chlorella, Spirulina, Hydrilla, Blue green algae, Spinach powder, Barley grass, Kamut grass, Oat grass, Wheat grass.
Chocolate Shakeology Antioxidant Super-Fruit Blend:
Acerola powder, Camu-Camu powder, Pomegranate powder, Bilberry powder, Blueberry powder, Lycium (Goji) powder, Açai powder, Maitake powder, Citrus bioflavonoids, Rose Hips powder.
Chocolate Shakeology Proprietary Adaptogen Herb Blend:
Maca powder, Astragalus powder, Ashwagandha powder, Cordyceps, Reishi powder, Schisandra powder, Suma powder, Ginko powder.
That's a lot of superfoods in one little shake.
I hear a lot of objections to Shakeology -- the cost, the taste, or the misguided notion that the protein shake you picked up at Walmart last week will give you the same benefits as a glass of Shakeology. That's just not true.
If you put any stock in the concept of "superfoods" and their ability to do things for your body that other foods won't, you will not find a better, cleaner, cheaper -- or more delicious -- source than Shakeology.
A lot of work and world travel goes into making Shakeology. Just ask Darin Olien:
"Food Matters" left me with a healthy level of righteous indignation at the pharmaceutical industry, but it also left me with a really good feeling about my decision to drink Shakeology every day.Yes, I lost a few pounds when I started drinking it, but it's more about putting something in my body that's going to help it be healthier and work better so that my run-ins with the pharmaceutical industry can be few and far between.
If you want a sample of Shakeology, get in touch with me. Or just buy a bag and try it for a month -- there's a 30-day money-back guarantee, so the risk is minimal. See what the superfood fuss is all about!
I recommend taking 80 minutes and watching "Food Matters." You can stream it to your computer for less than five bucks. Here's the trailer.
